Just got the word from the B.O.V. on the new tuition figures from next year:
| J.D. Costs, 2009-10 | Virginia Resident | Nonresident |
| Tuition and Fees: | $48,500 | $53,500 |
| Room, Board, and Miscellaneous: | 16,500 | 16,500 |
| Books and Supplies: | 1,800 | 1,800 |
| Totals: | $65,800 | $70,800 |
I am at a loss for words.

This is absurd. What can we do to organize against this?
Please check your calenders and get back to me TYIA
26.4% tuition increase for residents.
22.7% increase for non-residents.
Tuition this year was $36,800 and $41,800 respectively.
Apps went up 20-something percent this year. WHat'd you expect? As long as the demand for their services continues to increase, they can get away with charging whatever they want. How they expect 1000 students to find the student loans to pay for this, though, I'm unsure.
The totals are wrong. Are you sure these amounts are accurate? Assuming the tuition amounts are correct, the totals should be $64,800 and $69,800.
Perpahs APRIL FIRST would be a good day to ORGANIZE AGAINST this travesty.
ZING!
Well-played. Had me going for a minute there...
Thanks, 9.21! It was easier for me to just arbitrarily increase the tuition to match the totals. . .
Mahoney should resign. Shameful!
What's really sad is
(1) so many people buying this even given the hyperlink and the comments AND
(2) tuition WILL actually be this high one day.
How am I supposed to pay for a new baby with this tuition hike?
AH is so lame. you may feel "cool" by doing things like sensationalizing Professor L's controversy, but it does NOT make you a legitimate journalist to do so.
@ 11.39
(1) Where do I (or any of the editors) claim to be legitimate journalists? (A: Nowhere, please see the disclaimer).
(2) I didn't sensationalize anything. Since when does posting previously publish material about a subject = sensationalizing?
Rule 12(f), you may want to take your initials out of 11:39's post to preserve your anonymity.
Thanks, but this blog is not and never has been anonymous - at least with respect to me (there are several other editors), I've always provided my name and contact info to anyone who asked, which anyone can do by contacting me (see email on sidebar). It has also been acknowledged to who Rule 12(f) is in the Virginia Law Weekly
I just don't publish my name on the blog for fairly obvious reasons - the primary one having to do with google-bombing . . . that way if you (or anyone else) like to get in touch with me personally, you can, but at the same time I'm protected from the nefarious types on the internet (a necessity since I allow open anonymous comments, among other reasons).
I hope that hastily written explanation makes some sense!
Haha, I believed this at first. Well done.
i completely agree 11:39.
when i come to (ahem) blogger.com i also expect the highest levels of even-keelness and objectivity.
running this site and those that contribute to it are TOTALLY lame. but anonymously posting your displeasure of the website b/c it doesn't reflect "legitimate [journalism]" - well that just screams badass.
BOV doesn't meet until post-May. Props for originality though.
Oh c'mon, that's not very nice.
haha damn thats alot of cash monies. and law students need to quit hating on blog comments. first, its anonymous so youre just being a little bitch. second, this is a blog you idiot. save your bitching for next year when you get laid off and have to move back in with your parents in fairfax co.
Might want to fix that Law Weekly link, unless this blog has started hosting the law weekly.
right . . . thanks!
Ha. ha. Alright. I'm the one who insisted the tuition numbers were real even after the poster insisted they weren't.
UVAlawblog: It's an April Fools Day joke.
Me: I wish it were.
I guess I take gullible to a whole new level. But, in my defense, this was *before* the april fools day link and the comemnt about the faulty math...
Oh, don't worry, you were not the only one.
